Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Programme
A Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Programme was successfully organized by Danny and Friends (D&F), Muscular Dystrophy Association, in collaboration with J.J. College of Nursing, Tiruchirappalli, on 02 April 2026 (Thursday) at the college premise from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 noon.
The programme aimed to create awareness among nursing students about Muscular Dystrophy (MD) its causes, management, and the support systems available for the affected individuals.
The session commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Professor. A.S. Jasmine Jenifer Gladys, M.Sc (N), Vice Principal, who greeted the gathering and emphasized the importance of awareness on neuromuscular disorders.
The resource person, Dr. Joel Selwyn Victor, MD (General Medicine), provided a detailed explanation about Muscular Dystrophy, including its types, symptoms, progression, and medical management. His session was informative and helped students gain a clear understanding of the condition.
Mr. K. Kamaladhasan, Physiotherapist, elaborated on the various physiotherapy interventions and rehabilitation techniques available for children affected with Muscular Dystrophy. He highlighted the importance of regular physical therapy in improving quality of life.
The vision, mission, and activities of Danny and Friends (D&F) were explained by Mr. Gareth Daffydd Raj, General Director, who also shared insights into the organization’s continuous efforts in supporting individuals with MD.
Further, Mrs. R. Thiripurasundari, Social Worker, provided information about various government schemes and welfare measures available for children affected by Muscular Dystrophy, which was highly beneficial for the participants.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks. Overall, the session was highly informative and beneficial for the students, enhancing their knowledge and awareness regarding Muscular Dystrophy and patient care.
